Berghold 2007 Merlot

This merlot is definitely big dark fruit in the nose.  Ironically, its rather mellow on the palate when it first hits the tongue.  After it settles, bitter tannins grab a hold.  I found it a bit of a bumpy ride.  As they subside, the finish is substantial and sticks round.

Winemaker Notes: “Aged 16 months in American oak this wine will age very nicely over the next 6 – 10 years. This full bodied wine shows its European style in its rustic, earthy characteristics while subtly keeping deep berries in the layers. Fruit forward and showing varietal characteristics, it will change your attitude towards the bad rap “Sideways Merlot” has received. Not all Merlot’s are created equal!”
