DAOU 2012 Grenache Blanc

What a lovely golden color on this Grenache Blanc. It isn’t all that common so its a delight to see on Daou’s list. Big floral notes like fresh orange blossoms. Add some drops of honey and a bright citrus almost a lemon sherbet. What an interesting nose on this guy.

I thought the citrus nose was the sign of a big acidic palate but it wasn’t to be. A little lemon sour and an average acid structure . The ride was over and I think I forgot to get off. I think the nose led me on.

Winemaker Notes: “The broad masculine structure and golden color suggest this wine’s power and longevity.  Steeped hazelnuts and macadamia nuts cover the nose with hints of melon and lemon. When the wine meets the palate it showcases pure balance.  The bright acidity with moderate alcohol and dominant fruit help create a seamless texture.  The mouth is treated to lemon zest, ripe honeydew melon, roasted hazelnut and a touch of banana.  Its complexity combined with power and balance allows it to been enjoyed now or over time.
