Revana Winery

Revana Winery

Revana Winery is a small winery in St Helena (northern Napa Valley) on the western side of the valley. All tastings are by appointment only at Revana and valued at $55 per tasting.  They are open most days from 10am – 4pm.   Their tasting room is small and quaint.  It is definitely suited for an intimate setting.  They also have a beautiful courtyard which is great for sample their amazing wines while overlooking their vineyard.

This is another “lucky enough” winery for me.  I have had the privilege of spending quite a few days on this vineyard because of “knowing someone.”  Dr. Revana who is the “father” of this winery has a home on the property and he graciously allows guests to use it occasionally for visits to the valley.  It’s that sort of hospitality that you will find at this winery even though you will find yourself sitting in the heart of “big ticket” wine country.  It is not uncommon to find a snotty or condescending person pouring your wine at numerous wineries in Napa Valley.  That is not the sort of treatment that is common place at Revana.

Revana’s wines are exceptional.  There is no other way to spell it out.  These wines, some with a very old world personality, have garnered quite a bit of acclaim.  Their cab was ranked #4 on Wine Spectators 2010 Top 100 list.  That alone is enough to bring the circus to town.  Ironically, its their 2003 that I felt was absolutely ridiculous but what do I know.  To taste their wine, you will most likely have to come to Napa or order from their website.  If you don’t mind the price tag, this is a great bet for buying one of those treasured wines to age for a special occasion.  I enjoyed a 2003 at Bottega for my 40th birthday and I brag about the experience as often as anyone will listen.

How to get there:

Travel to Napa Valley.  Take HWY 29 North through the valley to St Helena.  Just after you leave St. Helena, look to your left for St. Clement Vineyards.  Soon after you pass, look on the right side of the street for Revanna’s stone sign and pass code gate.   Often times during heavy traffic days the gate will be open.  If not, you should have received a gate code when you scheduled your reservation.
