Bogle 2010 Reserve Barbera
This is a great story about how I love getting cool wines to play with and then get lost in the experience. Unfortunately, I have to piece this one together from my memory and I tasted it about 3 weeks ago. If I remember correctly, Bogle makes very little of this Barbera and it is grown on their property up in the Sierra Foothills. This is not a bottle that makes it any where near the market place so if you want to buy it, you’ll have to head to Clarksburg and buy one before its all gone. I think they told me this is one of their labels they makes specifically for their wine club folks sort of like an appreciation gift. Unfortunately, I think I got lost in the stories. They have lots of wines to meet. Sorry folks. I do remember the wine very well though!
I loved the rich blackberries! They smelled like you just picked them in the creek beds in the nearby foothills. The minerality and earthiness in the nose felt almost cool. Very fragrant in the mouth, a bit acidic on the mid-palate. You get cranberry and cloves (or another green aromatic leaf) while it sits waiting to finish. Definitely not what I was expecting. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. This is a great gift bottle as you won’t find it anywhere. You can’t even find it on their website so don’t bother looking.
