“Right in the Apple Hill area, Myka Estate’s tasting room sits wedged between a creek and HWY 50. It feels like you are in the woods but are a 7 iron will land in the East bound fast lane. I had not idea this was back here. They share a manicured lawn/patio with 1850 cellars as well as a kitchen, Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Not to mention, they have some fruit from Sonoma and Napa allowing for some more diverse Cab and Pinot options.”

2022 Jolie Laide “Rancho Coda” Gamay Noir

“Jolie Laide” in French mean “pretty ugly” however that literal translation ignores context and nuance. The term Jolie Laide describe something that is unconventionally beautiful and used as a term of endearment.I can assure you, there is nothing ugly about the wines that Scott & Jenny Schultz (owners/winemakers) produce. They are phenomenal.
Gamay is one of the least represented varietals in the US. Somewhere north of 2M cases hit the shelves of those cute 🇫🇷 markets each year compared with the US that has so little it’s hard to actually measure the actual acreage. When you find domestic Gamay, you’ve got to give it a whirl. 😍
This sexy bottle was full of fruit… I’m talking a jumble. It wasn’t so candied because it was only partially “carb’d.” After the fruit, a hint of floral and some pepper. The smallest hint of sea shell & salinity made it the perfect pairing for bulgogi tacos & cabbage served on the lanai at sunset. You salivating yet? I was. 😊
