Helping people buy better wine is a tall order. It seems simple enough but proves to be a complex, multi-layered problem and ironically everyone wants a simple 8 word solution. I heard that MIT and Ai are trying to figure this out and they are stumped. While we wait for their magic bullet, I have an idea that may help.

All you need is your phone and the Notes app. In just minutes, you could implement this easy system to help you improve your wine buying with very little effort. Four Lanterns Winery is the 35 acre passion projec

Four Lanterns Winery is the 35 acre passion project of Steve & Jackie Gleason. He makes the wine and she makes you comfortable in their adorable, barn/backyard like tasting oasis. This is a certified organic project but they don’t blast that horn often. They take their land stewardship serious without putting it on their bumper sticker. The winemaking style is minimal intervention, thoughtful and well executed. What I was really drawn to was the tasting space. They don’t want you to just taste their wine and leave. They want to share their little slice of heaven. This is the perfect 2nd wine tasting stop on Paso Robles’ west side! This is the spot to pack that extensive picnic, kick back under the trees, listen to some music and put your feet up with a few glasses of Steve’s juice. That’s is their vibe… it’s almost a super power. If you are planning a visit, don’t forget to invite me! I’m trying to dive back into more of that Still Light Rhone blend. It was delicious!😋

Like all years 2024 had plenty of ups and downs. In 2024 I decided to pursue my wine biz full time and not look back.

2024 was a year to focus on my health, focus on my energy and be that person I used to see in the mirror. As always, I met a LOT of new brands and spent a lot of time traveling both for wine and for pleasure.

In 2025, I look to surpass visiting my 400th winery. I am looking forward to shooting many more video series about winemakers and their brands giving you a peek inside their journey. Most of all, I endeavor to help you find better wine, help you improve your palate and help you see the wine industry as it is so you can be an informed consumer. My work is cut out for me but I am here for it!

White Wine
Lightest Wine = Alsatian Bottles
Medium Wine = Bordeaux Bottles
Boldest Wine = Burgundy Bottles

Red Wine
Lightest Wine = Burgundy Bottles
Medium Wine = Rhône Bottles
Boldest Wine = Bordeaux Bottles

The lighter color the bottle, the lighter the style of wine. The darker the color the bottle, the bolder style of wine.

As with all things, there are exceptions to every rule but this concept can help you lock in your wine style preference when you are shopping for wine.

I had a really busy October for sure. During a trip up the coast from Los Angeles, I decided to wine taste up the coast and stopped in Paso Robles to meet some new brands.   My first stop was Clos Selene (@clossolene) on the west side of Paso Robles. Clos Selene is a French Connection love story that you need to hear. If you are like me, I couldn’t help but ask, how the heck did a cute French couple end up making dope wine in Paso Robles? It’a an adorable tale you need to hear while sipping some of their immaculate wines.   The vast majority of the wines are Rhône jams with a few surprises tucked in there. I definitely didn’t expect to get solid bubbles in Paso. This is a great stop for the palate geeks and linguaphiles. (You’ll likely hear English, French and Spanish being mashed up like a scene from Pitch Perfect.) The view from the tasting room up the sweeping hillside vineyard is dreamy, especially in the morning after the sun has just crested the hill. Well done Clos Soléne! I love your vibe. 🤗

I got 💜 for Los Olivos!

One of my favorite places to taste wine in California is Los Olivos. Los Olivos is 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara and just over an hour south of Paso Robles. This small town in the middle of Central/Coastal California’s rolling hill country is adorable. The main part of town is a few blocks by a few blocks and you can’t throw a rock without hitting a tasting room. Where there aren’t tasting rooms, there are restaurants and shops making it an adorable place to visit or stay for a few days. I can’t recommend it enough! 😍
