Berryessa Gap

"Berryessa Gap’s connection to the land runs deep with farming roots from both Spanish and German ancestry in historic Winters, CA in Yolo County. Our father Dan Martinez, Sr., a first generation farmer of Spanish immigrants, planted apricots, almonds, prunes and walnuts in Winters. Dan Sr. partnered with San Francisco winemaker and wine historian Ernest Peninou in 1969 to develop a grapevine rootstock nursery business, Yolo Hills Viticulture Society, supplying UC Davis-sourced grapevine rootstock to what would become renowned Napa and Sonoma Valley vineyards and beyond."

“I had heard about Berryessa Gap long before I found them let alone tasted their wine. I was intrigued because it is located in the small town of Winters and unless you live there or in nearby Davis, you probably have no idea where this is on a map. It’s 30 miles east from Sacramento toward Napa then north into the countryside. The tasting room is posh and chic with a healthy dose of comfort. Antique elements of the building are hiding behind the sleek design. The wines are very well made with an eclectic list of varietals on their list. I tasted with Michelle and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable and easy to chat with. A great tasting experience. I wish there was a bigger tasting room presence here but then again, this is a small town for small towns.”
