Chateau Montelena

"Chateau Montelena has a celebrated history, and the Judgment of Paris is just one chapter. Modern technology does not replace people or the art in winemaking but expands our creative potential. There are no formulas here. Careful consideration drives every project with the determination to build our future."

“Chateau Montelena or just “Montelena” is responsible for Napa being the whole “thing” it is today. Napa was already a wine region in the early 1970s but without Montelena, it wouldn’t be one of the most visited tourist destinations in California. Montelena’s success at the Judgement in Paris wine competition in 1976 made the region explode into what it is today. Visiting is not just an experience but a dance with some big wine history significance. While many today value Montelena for their Cabernet, their wine that won was their Chardonnay.”

• In Calistoga; far North end of the valley, north of town.
• Spacious ground feels like a European chateau.
• It’s unexpected to find a lake with an island there.
• Lots of grounds to explore.
• Price tag is not for the faint of heart.
• Feels a little like an alive museum.
