Shenandoah

"Leon and Shirley Sobon founded Shenandoah Vineyards in 1977. They were one of the first four wineries in Amador County's now well known Shenandoah Valley appellation. From the first offering of 1,200 cases, the winery has continued to thrive, adjusting the portfolio of wines over the years. It is now producing about 20,000 cases per year. Demand continues to grow as a result of skilled winemaking, marketing, and strong family commitments to quality and service. Today, we continue to use estate grown grapes from our sustainably-farmed vineyards."

“I visited Sobon years ago and didn’t realize that these two brands were related. Sobon is considered the oldest or one of the oldest wineries in California. It has changed hands a few times since the 1850s. The Sobons bought it in the late 70s and now Paul Sobon is the 2nd generation winemaker for both brands. Sounds like Austin Sobon, third generation, is not making most of the wine for the  Shenandoah brand. The style here is different than what I remember at Sobon which is a cool comparison I plan to do in the future. If you visit, the picnic outside has a great view. Don’t miss it.”
