Berghold 2008 Syrah
I found leather, plum and light tobacco in this dark ruby. I don’t usually go for this variety of Syrah but this one is made pretty well and kept me guessing. I have a soft spot for 2008 wine. It was a tough year for California wine. This guy is well balanced and spicy on the rear palate. Nice long finish.

Winemaker Notes: “The first commercial wine produced by Berghold Vineyards. This rich, full-bodied classic red Rhone varietal has intense blackberry and leather aromas. Aged 18 months in American oak this complex wine is meant to be savored, as it reveals time in the interlacing layers of smoke and deep blackberry. It’s a wonderfully mellow wine.”
