Carol Shelton 2012 Wild Thing Zinfandel
I am not usually one to be swayed by a label but this bottle is cool. Keeping it on your table to show off might be a problem. It’s good.
This organically grown Zin with a splash of Carignane and a dash of Petit Sirah smells big and delicious. Bright oak and a blend of big red fruit. The typical plum notes found in Zin are there but have other players createing a nice harmony. Smells wild. Once on the palate, though, it’s surprisingly mellow. Easy. Just as you think it may be a let down, it gets a little cranberry snappy mid-palate. Don’t think snapping turtle, think beatnik poetry. By the rear palate, the tart acid structure carries the long and non-linear finish for a great show. So smooth and mellow while being involved and interesting. The tart acids offer a wet finish. Loved that. It sells for how much?

Winemaker Notes:Aromas of black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit combine with a beautiful hint of vanilla-oak loveliness, smoothly textured in mouth, very creamy and round, the finish is long and has lush jammy fruit — this wine is dangerously good! Remember – you are what you drink.
