Draconis 2012 Merlot
Notice the bottle is not even labeled yet. My hypothesis is that the wine that Matt Powell makes leaves his tasting room as fast as he can label it. I think that’s a good sign.
This rascal is full of warm oak notes that reach deep into the nose. Earthy and full of green, vegetable vines. A sweet start to a meaty palate. It’s got body. The mouth is full of texture. She’s not in a rush. The acids will take the stage but you’ll have to wait for their arrival. When they arrive… Hello!
A few spices enter the fray like a bold transition to the finish. Definitely ramps it up making it a long and involved act. It grew to be quite substantial. I must admit that I struggle with merlot in general but I appreciated this show.
