Fields Family 2009 Merlot
Grown in Napa but made in Lodi. Talk about role reversal. The color of this guy reminds me of an aged cab. A Merlot in a Cab disguise. Currant, herbs and spice are well organized for your nose.
Wonderfully big in the mouth. The tannins will invite themselves into your house and leave a mess behind like Thing 1 and Thing 2. Are there extra points for the Dr. Seuss simile? Your tongue will be a mess but you will enjoy the ride. Ironically, the finish is rather traditional, albeit a bit short and crisp. What is left is and abundance of sparkles left from the spices that remind you of the party that just finished. I have to say that it encourages you to go back in for more. Good times!

Winemaker Notes: “A beautiful expression of Napa Valley Merlot – A Merlot for Cab lovers. The aromatics are on display, where notes of Asian spice, red currant, plum and blueberry crisp are supported by a subtle streak of earthiness. The finish is round and balanced, providing persistent length of flavor.”
