Helwig 2013 Sauvignon Blanc
The muted color is appealing. Looks light and dainty. Enters the palate slowly no matter how fast you drink it. It is clean and zesty. Honey and tropical citrus. A little zizz to boot. It starts easy enough but gradually shows a bigger personality. Finishes big for a Sauv Blanc. Well made, nice price point… unfortunately, not my style. • 250 Cases

Winemaker Notes: The pale straw color of this wine is easy on the eyes and when drawn to the nose the Musqué clone truly shines with its elevated aromatics of tropical fruits, melon and citrus. The flavors astound with pink grapefruit, gooseberry, kiwi, lemon grass and papa- ya. This is a clean, bright wine that has a long finish of fleshy fruits and hints of freshly mown hay, a characteristic usually associated with cool climate Sauv Blanc’s……a pleasant surprise which adds nice complexity. This may be worth cellaring but since it is drinking so beautifully now, that might be tough.
