McConnell Estates 2008 Merlot
Soft cherry notes in the nose. It is not a forward wine., almost apologetic. An acidic ride from the first second it hits your tongue. Acid subsides as soon as it arrives. Neat trick. It begins to sit up because of the solid tannin structure on the mid-palate. Gets very smooth, silky, despite the legs, and has a long linear finish.
(K&S Rating: 3 of 6)
Winemaker Notes: “Soft, smooth tannins with hints of cherry and vanilla. Aged in French and American oak for 24 months. Cosumnes River is a sub-appellation of the Lodi Appellation which is cooler than the rest of the appellation…”
