Pondl 2011 “The Pinup” Rosé

A pale rosé.  Not gleaming or that typically bright rose color.  The pale color was a hint that I completely missed.  Some wine snob I am… That’s what I get for assuming I knew what I was tasting.

Nice gentle strawberry notes in the nose, very subtle.  The palate is where it got interesting.  Sweet strawberries were nice on the tip of the tongue.  Once on the mid-palate, things got fun.  A delightfully crisp bitter exchange emerged.  Like an intriguing dance between two great dancers fighting for the spot light but only for an instant.  Can’t believe I missed that!  Nice reminder that wines can often be like Forest’s boxes of chocolates.  “You never know what you’re gonna get.”

Winemaker Notes: “The color is like summer in Provence! Or the candied color of lipstick! A light fruit dessert on the nose, a crisp mouth feel, just the right balance of acidity and fruit! Juicy with a hint of bitterness that mellows out to candy peel with a trace of watermelon or strawberry! Nice on a summer day, goes well with summer dishes, seafood and Asian inspired cuisine. This American take on a French classic is sexy, fun and flirty – like a pinup!”
