2011 Nine Gables Mission Old Vine
The Mission grape is an old varietal and one of the first to make its way to North America with Spanish missionaries. I always find Mission an interesting experience on my palate. I have tasted so few in my adventures but as soon as it hits my mouth I feel like I am welcoming an old friend.
Sweet blueberry and licorice notes. A welcoming nose. Something familiar here but fleeting. The palate gets toasted wood, smoke and plum. Its a mellow wine that comes from a mellow grape. Delicate acids ride the palate from beginning to end. The finish starts with a few sour tannins then finishes as if its resting in a recliner. Easy does it.
