Klinker Brick 2011 Old Vine Zinfandel

Where’s the punch?  At least, the bouquet punch I was expecting from an award winning Old Vine Zin.  I expected booming plums but it was not to be.  The nose is very mellow, mature… classy.  Very understated berries in the nose.  Soft blackberries with some spices on the palate.  It’s not complex.  Solid tannin structure but not overwhelming.  This is s great Old Vine Zin for our Newbie Wine Snobs looking to take a step up in the world of reds.  Especially at this price point, this is a great place to start.

Winemaker’s Notes: “The 2011 vintage produced smaller yields than previous vintages. Our Old Vine Zinfandel comes from vines with an average age of 85 years. On the nose, aromatics black raspberry, cedar shavings are paired with pepper and spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with berries and dark cherry flavors, balanced with firm structure and a silky texture. As always, this wine has a smooth and lingering finish.”
